The Salons in 17th and 18th century France were the cradle of the Enlightenment, where engaged and serious men and women convened to discuss and argue about the future of their societies and of humanity more broadly. The Dublin Salon has been set up to uphold that tradition of free-spirited inquiry and unfettered intellectual curiosity.
Taking its cue from the Institute of Ideas and their flagship annual event, the Battle of Ideas, as well as from other likeminded Salons in the UK, the Dublin Salon will play host to public debates where contemporary political, cultural and scientific issues are up for lively discussion. Our invited speakers are academics, writers and specialists in their field, and audiences are encouraged to have their say – at Dublin Salon events, free speech is most definitely allowed.
